The acquisition of Lough Neagh
The Lough Neagh Development Trust is working with the current owner, other stakeholders and agencies to bring Lough Neagh into community ownership. When acquired the Trust intends to place title to the Lough in an independent property trust to be held in perpetuity on behalf of the people of Northern Ireland. Any surplus income generated by the Trust will be reinvested locally to address social issues, improve communities, enhance people’s life chances, and safeguard the environment.
The Lough Neagh Development Trust has been incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in Northern Ireland (registered number: NI634610; Registered Office; Cathedral Quarter Managed Workspace 109 – 113 Royal Avenue Belfast BT1 1FF 028 90311132 email@example.com).
The Trust is currently governed by an interim Board of Directors, charged with moving the Trust to a position where local members will democratically elect a new Board. Interim Directors will then step down. A rolling process of elections is built in to the Company’s Articles of Association.
Profiles of the interim board members can be found here.
Board Meetings are held monthly at venues around the Lough.
The Trust aims to hold its Annual General Meeting in October each year.
It is intended that formal membership recruitment to the Trust will begin in 2017. It will be phased, beginning with those who have the closest relationship with Lough Neagh and developing as the Trust grows. Voting members will elect Trust Directors.
Collaborative Working Partnerships
As the work undertaken by the Trust expands, formal collaborative working partnerships will be established with key stakeholders.
